Stainless Steel Bollards in the UAE: Crash Rated, Clad and Automatic Options
Stainless steel bollards are chosen where the bollard line is part of the architecture: hotel forecourts, retail frontages, government buildings and public plazas. On a UAE site they also have to cope with heat, sand, salt air and constant cleaning. Frontier Pitts Middle East supplies stainless steel bollards in three forms, so the finish can match the look of the site while the bollard underneath matches the security need.
Three ways to get a stainless steel bollard
1. A crash rated bollard with a stainless steel sleeve.
The structural bollard does the protecting. A stainless steel sleeve goes over it and sets the appearance. The Terra Static Venus Bollard, Terra Static Comet Bollard and Terra Shallow Venus Bollard are polyester powder coated as standard, with a range of sleeves including stainless steel finishes. The Terra Orion Bollard is hot-dip galvanized and epoxy coated, with the same sleeve options.
2. A stainless steel clad bollard.
The Terra Galaxy Bollard is finished with stainless steel cladding and is tested to IWA 14 at 7.2 tonnes and 48kph.
3. An automatic stainless steel bollard.
For entrances that open and close through the day:
- The Urban Collapsible 600 Telescopic Bollard has a 316L stainless steel finish as standard, a 600mm raised height and a shallow 520mm installation depth.
- The Urban Shield 900 is a battery operated retractable bollard with a stainless steel structure. It needs no mains wiring.
Sleeve or solid: which suits your site?
A stainless steel sleeve gives you the look of stainless steel over a crash tested core. If the sleeve is scratched or dented, it can be repaired or replaced without touching the bollard or its foundation. That makes sleeves a practical choice for busy frontages where trolleys, cleaning machines and vehicles are close to the line.
Clad and automatic stainless steel bollards suit sites where the bollard itself is on show at close range, or where the line has to open for vehicles.

Looking after stainless steel in the UAE
Stainless steel does not need painting, but it does need cleaning. On coastal sites, salt deposits can stain the surface if they are left to build up.
- Rinse the line with fresh water on a regular schedule.
- Use non-abrasive cloths and cleaners, so the surface is not scratched.
- Check the bottom of each bollard, where sand and cleaning machines do most of the wear.
- Keep the finish details in the handover file, so replacement sleeves match.
Where stainless steel bollards are used
- Hotel and residential forecourts
- Retail and shopping mall entrances
- Government and corporate buildings
- Public plazas and pedestrian areas
- Airport kerbsides and drop-off zones
Specifying stainless steel bollards
When you write the specification, state:
- The crash rating you need, by standard: PAS 68, IWA 14 or ISO 22343.
- Whether the stainless steel is a sleeve, cladding or the bollard’s own finish.
- The foundation type and depth available on site.
- The cleaning and maintenance regime the client will follow.

Frequently asked questions
Are stainless steel bollards crash rated?
A stainless steel bollard is crash rated when the bollard has been tested to a standard such as PAS 68, IWA 14 or ISO 22343. On many crash rated bollards, the stainless steel is a sleeve or cladding over the tested structure. Check the rating of the specific product you are specifying.
Do stainless steel bollards rust in the UAE?
Stainless steel resists corrosion well, but salt and dust left on the surface can cause staining, especially on coastal sites. Regular rinsing with fresh water keeps the finish clean.
What is the difference between a stainless steel sleeve and a stainless steel bollard?
A sleeve is a stainless steel cover fitted over a structural bollard. It can be replaced if damaged. A stainless steel clad or solid bollard has the stainless finish as part of the bollard itself.
